AULD WIVES LIFTS
The origins of the Lifts rest in the mists of time, but could be interpreted as a Druid Altar. A circle of oak tree's stood nearby until the middle of the Nineteenth century, giving credence to the theory.
"Probably no better example exists of the rude stone altar of Druid times. Here...stands the great pagan cathedral of Western Scotland."
